"There are nights where I dream that she is kind." He begins explaining, sitting down on his bed. "Where she offers me gifts and welcomes me home, praising me for growing up into such an amazing son. I don't even know if she ever looked for me, after I left. Did she bury an empty casket? Or did she never speak about me again?" He pauses, falling into contemplative silence for a long moment before continuing. "Some days, I have to mourn for a version of her that never existed." He said, shakily bringing his hands to his face. "My heart breaks for my imagination, and I cry for the idea of love from someone who hated me and everything that I was to her." He paused once more, gulping down shaky breaths. "It fucks with my head. But I understand why it happens. All I wanted was her love and acceptance, and sometimes my own psyche has to work through what I wanted, even if it's completely different from reality."
